Mucha Extra Credit

So I decided to do the Mucha extra credit assignment, and this is what I came up with. I tried to follow the guidelines as close as possible while still trying to make it look like my own piece. I definitely could have used more subtle lines and more gradient meshes but when I did it made it look sloppy, so I figured it would be better to just turn in a simplified version. I found that trying to keep the outline of the whole figure darker than the inner lines was difficult for me, probably due to my limited knowledge of illustrator. Also, trying to get the different strands of hair to intersect without having criss-crossing lines was very hard, and I know I have a lot of mistake areas in this that i just covered up with the paint brush.

also, I noticed that posting this on my blog changed some of the colors around, so it looks a lot brighter and more saturated than it really is, I kept the colors more muted to imitate Mucha’s colors.

Video Critique

I decided to critique Adam Farmer’s music video. I liked how it was following a character and sort of told a story that went along with the lyrics. It’s interesting to watch, and ties the images together with the song really well. I thought his use of Flash was really well done. The different leveled backgrounds were really interesting, and the color palette he used helped to hold it all together and create a sense of cohesion. I also really liked the “main character” of the video and the way he animated his face onto a bitmap. The only thing I would suggest to Adam would just be to add more to it because I really enjoyed it and would like to see more.

Personal Music Video

This is my attempt at a personal music video without the help of a group. I would just like to point out that how I intended it to look is completely different from how it actually turned out. I wanted it to look like the Orisinal games we played but unfortunately that didn’t happen at all. I was trying to make pictures in photoshop and import them into Flash but it kept putting these weird black borders around everything that I couldn’t get rid of so I ended up doing a lot of drawing with dumb Flash tools. Oh well, here it is.

**whether I export it as a quicktime or do it through filezilla, my video keeps speeding up half way through when it shouldn’t, so just fyi it’s not supposed to look like that**

Finished Group Project

Finally done with our group music video! I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and I think we found a way to blend our styles together really well. I’m glad we decided to do more work and find another stopping point later in the music because now it really does look finished. Enjoy.

Individual Music Video

Here’s my attempt at my own music video without group help :/ I was trying to do most of the images in photoshop and bring them into Flash and then animate parts of them, but i had a lot of trouble bringing things over without flash adding this ugly black fill around them which I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of, so I had to settle for stupid flash drawing tools that I hate. Oh well, hopefully it will look better when I touch it up.

Group Work

I know Sean said to do a post on how much group work sucks, but this is one of the first group projects I actually enjoyed doing. Usually they suck because they’re in a class you don’t care about, or there’s way too many people in your group. But I think our group worked really well together, and we all were able to add our own style into the project. I also learned a lot from the other two since I personally think they are much more advanced in flash than me, and knew really useful techniques that I didn’t. Plus, I think our finished product will be awesome so all in all I’d say it was a good experience.

I found this website accidentally a couple years ago, and it has since become an excellent and entertaining time waster. Of course it’s intended for pre-schoolers, but I really do think anyone can enjoy it. The entire sight is flash, and it doesn’t have any text, just moving colors and pictures that the viewer can interact with directly. I recommend that everyone play with this website at least once, it’s innocent and fun (which is obviously hard to find on the internet). So enjoy!

An object in my room that I think is beautiful is this bowl thing I got from a thrift store. I have no idea how old it is, or anything about it aside from an engraving on the bottom in some other language which I think I have figured out is Hindu. It’s made out of some type of metal, and is no bigger than a cereal bowl. But the inside and outside are covered in very intricate and complicated abstract designs made from different materials lain together. Although it’s pretty tarnished and faded now, you can tell that at one time it was very colorful and vibrant. I’m assuming it was meant to be decorative and not to have any real use. I wish I could find out more about it because it’s a very beautiful piece, and I love finding out the history behind old things like this.

I really enjoyed this article. It brought up something really interesting which I think is often overlooked by most people today. The idea that so many things have completely lost their value due to how easily they can be mass-reproduced and distributed is really important when searching for something that is truly valuable. I liked his “generative” list and thought it was interesting how those things have gained value since they are harder to come by in our world of free copies. I think it’s astounding how easy it is nowadays for people to lose sight of how cheap everything is, and how invaluable these generatives really are.
